Duke lifting his leg in the general vicinity of Joe Wheeler.
Looks like we'll be extending our stay here at Joe Wheeler State Park for a bit as our electrical inverter (the thingy that turns our DC battery power into AC power, is fried. It's operation has been finicky ever since we had it put in a few years ago (that's another story!!) but because we've been staying at marinas (and had shorepower connections) it was not so obvious how bad of shape it was really in.
Of course this is a test to see if we really have what it takes to be "laid back" loopers, so the task at hand is to see if we can find things to do (or not do) for the week or so it will take for The Boat Whisperer to diagnose the problem (turns out yes the inverter is kaput), find and order a new unit, make arrangements to get it air shipped to the Park Office and in meantime enjoy the fine fall days exploring the park trails with long walks with the dogs, curling up in a sunny spot in the salon with the cat and making sure we get enough fluids........
Along the way we also tap into the AGLCA's Harbor Host network, a group of volunteers in various locations along the way that offer support in the way of shuttling you into town for supplies, help with boating issues, provide mail drops, etc. In our case the local Harbor Host was a retired nuclear engineer who conveniently had tools and know how to help me adjust and resecure the stainless steel tube supports for the rear cockpit awning.
After a few days the new inverter arrived and The Boat Whisperer did his magic (finding several other electrical problems and improvements to make). Working into the night and then final testing and adjustments and we're ready to cast off!
