Our cruise down the west coast of Florida and the turn up the Caloosahatchee River at Ft Myers ends our adventures in the Gulf of Mexico. We've had lot's of extended anchorages ("livin on island time, mon"), great food and well generally, memorable weather. The beautiful waters of the Gulf and wildlife (have I taken enough pictures of dolpins yet?) are definitely highlights of the trip. Closing out the last runs in saltwater we encounter some of the loopers noted navigation perils, "hells gate" and "the miserable mile", where shallows and crossing the strong outflows from the Caloosahatchee River can easily force the casual pilot aground await us. I am vigilant and watchful, but almost get carried into 2 ft of water twice along the way, haha not so funny!
