Our transition from the Gulf back to the rivers included a planned stop in Cape Coral to position us for the run up the river and to take care of a few provisioning needs. As it turns out it seems our "house" battery bank (the batteries that supply power to the inverter system to give us AC power when we're at anchor or when the generator is not running) has sustained some irreversible damage from running down during the 2 week period in Punta Gorda/Yo Mama Bay during Tropical Storm Colin.
"To the rescue" is the AGLCA's Harbor Host system, a network of volunteers positioned along the way that offer up car rides for trips to the hardware/grocery store, social support (did I mention "docktails"?), etc. for us crazy loopers when we need heeeeeeeelp.
When we fried our inverter last fall in Rogersville, AL at the AGLCA Fall Rendezvous, the local harbor host, a retired nuclear engineer, came by with tools and parts to help us do some repairs on the stainless steel supports for the rear cockpit awning.
In Cape Coral, we were oh so lucky to encounter 2016's "True North" Harbor Host of the Year, Kitty Nicolai. With dock space for boats up to 100 ft, 50 amp power a pool, and most importantly, a ride to the local Batteries Plus store to replace all four of the house batteries!!! To top off our visit, Kitty cooked us dinner!!
Again, All's Well that Ends Well!!!
Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of residential canals!!!
Happy Happy, happy after getting a battery transplant.
