Franklin Lock is our first day's destination and the first of the 5 locks (and more bridges!) we will need to transit to get from Florida's west coast at Ft Myers to the east coast at Stuart. It was a nice run to be on a river system again and the river/canal route takes us from the high rises of Ft Myers/Cape Coral to the live oaks, spanish moss and cattle and farmlands of central Florida. Franklin Lock has a nice campground and 8 boat slips run by the US Corps of Engineers. I get to use my Seniors Golden Eagle pass to get 50% off our slip and power!
At the end of the island is a busy rookery and the afternoon provides an entertaining show.
