Silver Springs & Thanksgiving

After a quick turnaround weekend in Atlanta, JT and I drive back to Jacksonville for Thanksgiving week on the boat. Pat will join us as soon as she gets a few things done at the "dirt house" so we can all celebrate Thanksgiving together with our marina neighbors.

After a couple oyster shucking sessions JT and I decide to drive down to Silver Springs for a day kayak trip before Pat makes her way down. On the drive down JT confirms my diagnosis of "Blue Hair" disease after he has to remind me that my turn signal's been ON for the last 3 miles! Wow I didn't realize getting old was setting in so painlessly.

Silver Springs was originally developed in the 1930's and has that retro Weeki Wachee/mermaid vibe to it. Reputedly the largest freshwater spring in the world, it is widely known for it's crystal clear waters and abundant wildlife. It's also known for being one of the filming locations for The Creature from the Black Lagoon, a monster movie classic.

As it turns out Silver Springs is a wildlife find. Birds, gators even monkeys!!!!!

Thanksgiving day at the marina clubhouse. What a feast! Time for football on TV and a nap!
