Notice how the relative proportions of the upper and lower peninsula are portrayed. A clear sign of Yoopers.
OK , so by now you know we’re the Loopers, but Yoopers? It’s a term that refers to folks that live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The “U-P”ers or Yoopers take pride in their independence from the Lower Peninsula folks, which are sometimes referred to as Trolls (because they live “under the (Mackinac) bridge”). In this case the Yoopers are Mike & Connie, Terry’s brother and his wife, who have a summer cabin in the U.P. Conveniently they are nearby when we clear customs and re-enter the US near our first marina back in the States at De Tour Village, so we get to spend a few days with them.
So what can you do in Yooperville? You can eat fresh caught Walleye at the Moose Lodge, you can attend the 42nd annual steam and electric tractor show, you can even eat fried Oreos, and of course you can just relax in the solitude of cabin/lake life!
Mike is restoring our family's classic 1954 Chris Craft mahogany runabout.
.............. and a neighbor has restored Connie's 1940 "Ford" family tractor.
Alas, all good things have to come to an end.................. casting off for the open water run to Mackinac Island.
