Casting off from Gore Bay we are now heading to the prime reason we chose to go back to Canada again this season. The islands of the North Channel contain some of the most remote and beautiful anchorages anywhere on the Loop and we just did not get enough of this last year. We provisioned for more than a week out and had the luxury of getting to this area even before the majority of cruisers come here so got a very special experience.
Getting to the Benjamin Islands involved yet another first..... navigating in thick fog in open waters. Thanks to GPS/electronic charting, AIS/position-collision avoidance and other "modern" navigation system equipment, we "knew" where we were even though we could not see very far ahead.
